History, Technology & Track Record

Founding story and original vision Gary Stone founded NBT (Nano Bubble Technologies Pty Ltd, established in 2015, with 15 years of R&D and real-world deployment by 2026). Gary’s background was as a meat wholesaler/processor where he dealt with persistent bacterial, viral, and fungal issues (e.g., listeria risks and chemical resistance). He explored ozone for safer cleaning in the meat industry, aiming to harness gases in liquids at high volumes for chemical-free pathogen control. A chance conversation at Avondale Golf Club in Sydney with superintendent David Warwick who was hand-watering stressed greens, and Gary noted the foul-smelling (anaerobic) water. This sparked the shift to turf and broader water treatment. Gary’s vision was to solve the global water crisis by cleaning water with ozone and oxygen at the molecular level — turning anaerobic water aerobic, achieving supersaturated dissolved gases (e.g., >30 ppm oxygen, which some scientists said violated Henry’s Law), and delivering sustainable, chemical-free solutions across industries. After 15+ years of R&D (including skepticism and high costs), NBT has emerged as a disruptive business focused on “smarter water treatment” for turf, agriculture, aquaculture, wastewater, lakes/ponds, and industrial uses. The company positions itself as Australia’s (possibly the Worlds) leading nanobubble provider with proven ROI through reduced inputs and higher yields.
The science of nanobubbles — how the technology works Nanobubbles (NBs or ultrafine bubbles/UFBs) are gas-filled cavities typically <1 μm (often <100 nm mean diameter, e.g., 75 nm in NBT systems), ~2,500× smaller than a grain of salt or 1/400th the width of a human hair. Unlike macro- or microbubbles (which rise quickly and burst at the surface), nanobubbles are neutrally buoyant, can remain suspended for weeks and exhibit ultra-long stability. Key properties and benefits (per NBT and general nanobubble science): • Extremely high surface area-to-volume ratio → superior gas transfer efficiency (>85–90% dissolution rate, far above traditional aeration). • Negative surface charge → bubbles repel each other for even distribution while attracting positively charged contaminants/pathogens. • Upon collapse, they generate potent hydroxyl radicals for natural oxidation (chemical-free disinfection and organic breakdown). • Enable supersaturated dissolved oxygen (DO) levels (e.g., 23+ ppm, or up to 28–30+ ppm in NBT systems) and long-lasting gas delivery deep into soil, roots, sediments, or water columns. • Applications leverage oxygen, ozone, CO₂, nitrogen, etc., for aeration, pathogen control, nutrient uptake, sludge oxidation, and more. NBT’s systems infuse specific gases into liquids for targeted results, outperforming conventional methods in efficiency, longevity, and sustainability. The Nano Bubble Library expands on this with sections on oxygenated water, Henry’s Law, ozone applications, aquaculture, agriculture, etc. Development of the patented injector platform (V1 through V5) NBT’s core innovation is its patented nanobubble injector system which produces the world’s smallest gas-filled nanobubbles at industrial scale (mean ~75 nm diameter, highest density on the market). The modular system can deploy standalone or in banks of up to 40 units (containerised) treating up to 3.5 megalitres/day. It integrates with oxygen concentrators, ozone generators, pumps, valves, and automated controls for seamless retrofitting into existing irrigation or water systems. The injectors achieve hyper-efficient gas transfer, enabling stable mega-saturated oxygen/ozone levels.
